Job Description

Southwest Shipyard Lp is seeking a skilled Fitter - 1A to join our team. The primary responsibilities consist of performing structural fitting functions, ensuring a safe and efficient working environment. The duties include laying out, positioning, and aligning fabricated structural steel plate according to specifications, as well as moving parts into position and aligning them manually or using hoists or cranes. Additionally, the role may involve tacking welding as necessary, consulting with foremen regarding installation or repair problems, and attending safety meetings as required. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

Requirements

• Minimum one year experience as a structural fitter (shipyard experience preferred, but not required).
• Ability to perform simple paperwork as required for filling out forms and logs.

Special Requirements/Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Mandatory drug testing prior to employment, and will be subject to random, unannounced drug and/or alcohol tests during employment.
• Good judgment skills and a high-level work initiative.
• Ability to work independently and meet strict attendance requirements.

Physical/Environmental Requirements

• Barge chemical environment; requires prolonged kneeling, standing, walking, and the ability to lift and carry in excess of 120 lbs, assisted.
• Ability to work in varied conditions (i.e.: heat, cold, rain, ice, snow, etc.), inside and outside, as well as in confined spaces and at heights.
